Being a licensed aesthetician, the main goal I have for all of my clients is to have gorgeous, healthy skin. No more so than for a client on her big day. When new clients come in to see me we get them started on a skin care plan to ensure that when their wedding day comes they are going to be glowing, stunning brides.
Here are a few tips to help you have amazing skin on your big day.
See an aesthetician to get started on a good skin care plan a minimum of three to six months before your wedding. I suggest a consultation with an aesthetician early to see what they suggest and to have a treatment plan put together. This allows you a chance to see what the aesthetician offers and also to make sure that you feel comfortable and trust your practitioner.
Don’t wait until the last month before your wedding to start skin treatments. While treatments like the HydraFacial or chemical peels can and will leave you with absolutely gorgeous, glowing skin, those with more acne-prone skin could experience “purging,” which looks and acts like a break out, when your skin is flushing out all of the oil and debris that builds up. For some people, if they had a blemish starting under their skin, these treatments will bring them to the surface, which is actually a good thing, but not right before your wedding. Also for those brides needing skin corrections, a month may not be enough time to give you that skin you’ve been dreaming of.
Don’t start using a new skin care product the week of your wedding. Sometimes our skin can react badly to new ingredients in some skin care products, which can lead to breakouts, irritation, or sometimes a rash. If you are going to try something new make sure that you give yourself at least a month or even two prior to your big day.
Waxing. If you aren’t already on a current waxing schedule, you will want to get started at least two months in advance. This will allow you plenty of time to make sure you won’t have any type of reaction to the wax. Always make sure you are going to a reputable spa and that the aesthetician is experienced in waxing. Starting in advance will prevent a last-minute skin irritation for your big day!
Get lots of sleep. We all know that we should try to get eight hours of sleep a night. This allows our bodies to recharge and will help you to have a gorgeous, refreshed complexion.
Treatments to help hyper-pigmentation (sunspots, sun damage) like laser, medical micro-needling (SkinPen), and chemical peels are phenomenal ways to help achieve your desired results. However, these treatments can sometimes take multiple treatments spaced three to four weeks apart. Be sure to get started on these treatments as soon as possible so that you can see your best results on your big day!
Drink lots of water. While we all know we should try to drink water every day, sometimes we get to the end of our day and haven’t had a single sip of water! Water not only hydrates us, but it also flushes toxins from our bodies. Drinking lots of water will allow your skin to look fresh, hydrated, and glowing.
MOISTURIZE. I can’t stress enough how important moisture is for our skin. As I stated above, drinking plenty of water is essential to healthy, glowing skin, but we also need to be sure we are properly moisturizing our skin from the outside as well. Products like hyaluronic acid (a natural hydrating molecule found IN our bodies) will help to hydrate your skin but also plump and firm as well. It’s amazing what moisture can do for our complexion.
Exercise. Not only will exercise make you feel better and ensure that your dress fits perfectly on your wedding day, but it will also help de-stress and relax your mind. Exercise will also help keep your skin healthy and glowing. Even a brisk walk is an excellent way to exercise. Take even twenty minutes out of your day for cardio or a walk, and you’ll feel the difference.
Spray tan. Many brides want that gorgeous glow on their big day but (smartly!) don’t want to risk damaging their skin. A spray tan like Sakura’s customized technician spray tans (not booth spray tanning) using our vegan NorvellPro Venetian product, will leave you with that perfect, “just off the beach” glow. I also suggest trying out a spray tan a few weeks before your wedding to make sure you’re happy with the color! Spray tans last about five days and then begin to fade, so make sure to time your spray tan so that you are still having your gorgeous glow.
Once my clients are on a great skin routine, I suggest doing a facial treatment (that they have previously done and we know will not cause any adverse reaction) the week of the wedding. Many clients will do a HydraFacial or Fire & Ice peel the day before or day of their wedding. This will leave you with an absolutely gorgeous and hydrated glow without any downtime. You will feel a difference in your skin, your makeup will apply better, and others will visibly be able to see your glow!
While it can seem overwhelming and sometimes hopeless, seeing a licensed aesthetician who can guide you on the path to your best skin will take the stress out of your skin care for your big day. The last thing you need to be worried about is your skin. Let us do the work for you!
